This is a side of motorcycling often ignored, but the 4B's, with regular visits, distribution of magazines and friendly support, try to make it as easy as possible.

The Motorcycle Riders Association of Australia was founded in Melbourne in May, 1978 as a non-profit, volunteer organisation working in the interests of it's Victorian members. From 2004 to 2009 there were motions to consolidate and rename as the Victorian Branch so at the 2010 AGM the name changed to MRA(Vic).The MRA(Vic) offers support to all Australian motorcyclists from social, sporting and interested clubs to any motorcycle related organsations. The MRA(Vic) is also a member of the Australian Motorcycle Council. More ..

Some Nelson motorcyclists say they are "disgusted" by a 100-day police campaign to target riders even if they are not doing anything wrong.

The campaign is a result of a large number of motorcycle crash fatalities in the Tasman police district over the past nine months.

TOKYO — Japanese motorcycle maker Yamaha Motor announced Friday plans to close seven factories globally with the loss of 1,000 jobs, in an effort to bounce back from a 2.4-billion-dollar annual loss.

Regional councillor and motorcycle enthusiast Bob Walker is preparing to ride into battle over ACC motorcycle levy hikes.

It will be the Wanganui real estate agent's first protest, as he said he had never felt as strongly about an issue as he does about the levy hikes.

Mr Walker will join an estimated 2000 other motorcyclists, about 50 of whom will come from Wanganui, in a protest outside Parliament on November 17.

One of my staff was at a community function the other day at Southwards Car Museum on the Kapiti Coast, and he came across a leaflet calling all motorcyclists to get in touch with their local club, and it had the contact details of every club in the area.

It struck him that New Zealand motorcyclists are some of the most well-organised and determined community groups in New Zealand. If anyone can save our ACC scheme - you can.

Open in new windowHIGHWAY ROBBERY: Ralph Hazleton, of Rolling Thunder Motor Co, is one of many motorcycle riders, especially those with large bikes, lamenting the increase in ACC levies announced yesterday.

New Zealand Motorcyclists say there will be loud protests against the proposed $500 ACC levy increase on large bikes.

"It's ludicrous - what are they thinking of?" Motorcycling New Zealand chief executive Paul Pavletich said.

Owners of bikes over 601cc will see their annual ACC levy increase from $252.69 to $745.77 under the proposal.

Asia/Pacific : Police work to stop 'gang' event

Nelson police want sponsors of a charity motorcycle event to pull their support because of gang links.

The event's organisers were patched members of the Red Devils, an associate club of the Hells Angels, Nelson Bays area commander Inspector Brian McGurk said.

The annual Nelson Bays poker run in March attracted over 200 motorcyclists this year and some sponsors said there had been no problems and they would continue their support.

The traffic safety watchdog and an NGO are giving away many helmets for free and 10,000 others at discounts on the occasion of the first United Nations Global Road Safety Week, April 23-29.

The National Traffic Safety Committee and the Asian Injury Protection Fund (AIPF) began a program titled ‘Wear a helmet, no excuse’ Monday with a safety appeal to motorbike riders in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Asia/Pacific : Malaysia to embed car license plates with RFID microchips to combat theft

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Malaysia's government, hoping to thwart car thieves, will embed license plates with microchips containing information about the vehicle and its owner, a news report said Saturday.

With the chips in use, officials can scan cars at roadblocks and identify stolen vehicles, the New Straits Times reported.
