Hi guys,
a fellow by the name of Harry Schello has contacted the association after having no reply from RACV looking for places he may practice riding for a returning rider? He was using a carpark at Sandown before being asked to move on. I guess he needs a surfaced area to hone his skills before he ventures back into traffic which is not a bad idea. I have already suggested contacting the Rider training schools or perhaps Calder park or Broadford raceway management if Sandown is not interested. Any suggestions?

Now this I find is a serious problem and needs addressing by authorities.
Where are you able to practice? I have a grand daughter wanting to learn but there is nowhere. Sometimes one might find paint on quiet roads such as in industrial estate that resemble the training centre markings. However, once again, as it is on a legal road, the learner is not legal to use it. There should be a permit where a learner may ride under the supervision of a learned rider for slow riding and braking and swerving practice only.

Industrial estate would be my best suggestion, otherwise Flemington racecourse is a possibility I have heard by someone in the know, lots of ashphalt, only used on race days and no security.

Hi,
My daughter recently obtained her motorbike L permit through the rider training school at Calder Park and was told that she is most welcome to return for addition practice and advice.

Don't know who told you to move on but when I needed to practice to get my licence back after my accident I went and talked to Mel at ride tek and he said I could practice as long as the bike was registered with either normal rego or rec rego and they are based at Sandown but I did ask first. Also you want to get back to riding dose that mean you have a valid licence which would mean that you could practice on any public road with a registered vehicle and their are plenty of Quiet industrial estates around on the weekend. If you don't have a licence then you do a coarse to get a permit

It was thus written--Quote:

What we want is a place or method that a rider can learn to stay upright (at low controlled speeds of course) and change gears, practice slow riding, braking etc etc before going to get the permit. Further, in small towns, where? No large bitumen parking anywhere so what do they do? There MUST be a way to get a permit to practice (only) before going for a L plate.
