The Red Holden Ute YQZ-343 driver was incensed that I filtered next to him on City Road, so much that when the lights changed and I moved ahead of him up to the posted limit he believed he had the right to try and kill me by accelerating past in the same lane forcing me to take evasive action away from him. If I hadn't reacted to the flash of red in my mirror he would have hit me. You can see him accelerate to get away. I caught up to him and gave him a piece of my mind but he insisted he had right of way and that I was the one in the wrong. We need to get filtering legitimized and drivers educated that it is not their right to put other road users in danger intentionally and maliciously because of perceived infractions.

About 2,000 of us went over to Albany two years ago for the Ulysses AGM: the weather will be the biggest issue. Too hot, PITA. Cold and wet, PITA.
So you need a cool jacket for the hot weather, and waterproof stuff for the cold and wet, because whatever it is like going there it will be totally different on the way back! Road stations are very average, petrol prices horrid, and accommodation just about 1 star. Coming back I got a photo of the GPS telling me in 1200km make a left turn ;)

Thanks for the replies, not intending to test the law by any means just a debate I had with a bloke, so I assume then I can legally drink something non alcoholic whilst driving, as an aside, did the law get passed Tony?

It is akin to the "no OPEN alcohol container is allowed in the front seat area of vehicles" law in the US.
Guess it is OK to drink in the back seat and steer with your feet.

The Victorian government has introduced a law that you may not drink alcohol while driving - regardless of your BAC.
It's basically a dumb law because if you are over .05 you're committing an offence anyway abd I fail to see the difference between drinking a beer or a softdrink if you're under .05. Quote:

Hi Mick,
Blood alcohol concentration Professional drivers such as truck, bus or taxi drivers; P-platers and learner drivers must have a zero blood alcohol concentration (BAC), while all other drivers must stay under .05 BAC. You must be under .05 BAC while supervising a learner driver. This rule applies to public roads and also private property. It is not illegal to be eating or drinking whilst in command of a vehicle so long as you are complying with the relevant rules on vehicle control. You must be in control of a vehilce whilst it is on the road at all times. It is not illegal to be drinking alcohol whilst in control of a vehicle as per above so long as your tested BAC is under the limit. If you are consuming alcohol at a preliminary test station a breath test would be invalid, hence why they ask how long it has been since your last drink of alcohol. You would immediately be required to submit to further testing. Of course if your car is on the road then it is deemed to be a public place and if you are in a declared dry zone then a different offence is being committed. This is not to be taken as legal advice. This was found from several legal websites discussing the issue.

Anyone know the "legal" viewpoint on this? Had a discussion with a mate on this recently, do know it is illegal to ride/drive with over .05 grams of alcohol in teh system "assuming full license here" just wondering what the ramifications are if I am having a stubby of beer whilst driving but still under the legal limit?
Further to that, if the above is illegal then can I legally drink a can of coke (unaltered)? If so, why the discrepancy??
